LA Opera By the Numbers

LA Opera wouldn’t exist without its supporters. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we rely on donations from supporters like you. In fact, ticket sales cover only about 40% of our budget, donors make it possible to present world-class opera in Los Angeles. But how exactly are charitable dollars used?

Out of every dollar donated to LA Opera, 80 cents go directly to productions, paying for artists, musicians, stagehands, lighting, costumes, sets, props, and all of our other programming and technical costs.

Of the remaining 20 cents, 13 are dedicated to education programs and administration, ensuring LA Opera is running smoothly day-to-day and spreading love of opera to future generations and our community through programs that reach over 135,000 people every year. And the remaining seven cents go to the fundraising efforts that help us fund the 60% of the budget not covered by ticket sales!

That means your gift will have THREE times the impact in supporting the hundreds of artists and staff, who produce opera of the highest caliber on stage at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and within our community.
