In 2016, Oreste Cosimo was selected by Riccardo Muti for his Italian Opera Academy in Ravenna. He then became a member of Accademia del Teatro alla Scala for two years, studying with such artists as Renato Bruson, Gregory Kunde, Luciana D'Intino and Vincenzo Scalera. He appeared in productions of
La Traviata, Nabucco and
Hansel and Gretel on the La Scala main stage, working with Antonio Pappano and Daniel Barenboim, and had the opportunity to sing the role of Alfredo opposite Anna Netrebko for an orchestra rehearsal of
La Traviata under the baton of Nello Santi.
He graduated with honors from the Arrigo Boito Conservatory of Parma. He made his debut at the age of 21 as Ismaele in
Nabucco at Teatro Verdi in Busseto. He later sang several principal roles in various theaters in the province of Parma, before joining the soloists of the Accademia della Scala. In 2018 he moved to Vienna to study with tenor Ramon Vargas.
His many leading roles include Rodolfo in
La Bohème (Festival Puccini, Opéra de Nice, Filarmonico di Verona, Trieste, Bern), the Duke of Mantua in
Rigoletto (Modena, Ferrara, Tel Aviv), Nemorino in
L’elisir d’amore (Astana), Don Ottavio in
Don Giovanni (Filarmonico di Verona), Pinkerton in
Madama Butterfly, Nadir in
The Pearl Fishers and Edgardo in
Lucia di Lammermoor (Aalto Theater Essen, Nice, Dusseldorf, Tel Aviv), and Alfredo in
La Traviata (Tel Aviv, Prague).
His most recent performances include Verdi’s
Messa da Requiem with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra; the Duke of Mantua in
Rigoletto in Tel Aviv; Alfredo in
La Traviata at the National Theatre in Prague; Rossini's
Petite Messe Solennelle with the Rundfunkchor Berlin; Puccini’s
Messa di Gloria in Piacenza; Edgardo in
Lucia di Lammermoor in Tel Aviv; Ruggero in
La Rondine at Teatro Regio in Turin; Rodolfo in La Bohéme at Festival Puccini; both Rodolfo and Edgardo at Opéra de Nice; Faust in Lili Boulanger’s
Faust et Helène (Faust) in Leipzig; and Hoffmann in
The Tales of Hoffmann at Deutsche Oper Berlin and in Tel Aviv.
Future projects include Florestan in
Fidelio at Deutsche Oper Berlin; Alfredo and Rodolfo at the National Theatre Prague; Rinuccio in
Gianni Schicchi at Lithuanian National Opera Vilnius; the Duke of Mantua at Teatro Regio in Turin;and his role debut as Don José in
Carmen at Deutsche Oper Berlin.
