An Industry-Shifting and Eye-Opening Conversation about Race and Opera
A long overdue conversation on racial disparity and inequality in the opera world, led by mezzo-soprano J'Nai Bridges.
On June 5, 2020, mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges led a powerful roundtable discussion on racial disparity and inequality in opera, featuring a panel of renowned artists: soprano Julia Bullock, tenor Lawrence Brownlee, tenor Russell Thomas, soprano Karen Slack and bass Morris Robinson.
"So much has changed—I'm happy to report that," Ms. Bridges reflected one year later. "I think the main thing that has changed is there is a lot of dialogue and conversation about inequity, racism, equality, equity. And not only is there dialogue, but I'm seeing change and I'm feeling change. It's really inspiring, it's hopeful and it definitely makes me feel proud."
