LAO Celebrates: Meredith Willson Award Recipient
We’re celebrating! Los Angeles Opera has received an inaugural Meredith Willson Award from The Music Man Foundation. The funding is enormously helpful in supporting the company’s work to permanently change the way music is embedded in our schools, health care system and community.
Los Angeles Opera is deeply honored to be a recipient of a 2022 Meredith Willson Award, which supports general operating expenses for our Connects community and education programs across Los Angeles County. Los Angeles Opera’s exploration of the interconnectivity of music and health through its specialized community programs is a vital aspect of the company’s work to enrich the social, economic, civic, and cultural environment of Los Angeles. With this prestigious award, Los Angeles Opera looks forward to continuing to promote systemic change in how it and other arts and culture organizations promote cultural access and community wellness through collaborations with partnering schools and school districts, community groups, social service and healthcare organizations, and local government agencies.
Established in 1998 by Rosemary Willson and named after the Tony Award-winning musical written by her late husband, Meredith Willson, The Music Man Foundation has a mission to empower organizations using music to catalyze enduring change and to amplify the founders’ musical legacy. Over the last decade, the Foundation has awarded more than $22 million to 80 organizations. Los Angeles Opera is incredibly grateful for The Music Man Foundation’s commitment to music and well-being, which helps to ensure all members of the Los Angeles community benefit from transformative musical experiences.
