LA Opera presents Renée Fleming & Friends on June 14
The iconic soprano will be joined at the June 14 performance by special guest artists Tituss Burgess, Lindsay Mendez and Jessie Mueller
(Los Angeles) May 9, 2025 — On June 14, LA Opera will present Renée Fleming & Friends, an evening devoted to beloved songs and Broadway showstoppers. She will be joined by three celebrated guest artists—Tituss Burgess, Lindsay Mendez and Jessie Mueller—making their first appearances with the company in a rare opportunity to hear vocal powerhouses from Broadway and opera performing together. The pianist will be Doug Peck.
Renée Fleming first performed with the Emmy-nominated performer Tituss Burgess at Sing for Hope's 10th anniversary gala in 2016. More recently, he performed in tribute to her when she was recognized for her contributions to American culture at the 2023 Kennedy Center Honors, which was televised on CBS. In 2018, when Ms. Fleming starred as Nettie Fowler in the Broadway revival of Carousel, appearing with Jessie Mueller as Julie Jordan and Lindsay Mendez as Carrie Pipperidge, all three earned Tony Award nominations for their performances, with Mendez winning as Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

One of the most acclaimed singers of our time, Renée Fleming has performed on the stages of the world’s great opera houses and concert halls, as well as momentous occasions like the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, the 2014 Super Bowl, and the Diamond Jubilee Concert for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. With a recording career spanning numerous complete operas and song recitals to indie rock and jazz, her accolades include five Grammy Awards, the U.S. National Medal of Arts, and France's Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, in addition to being featured on the soundtracks to the Oscar-winning films The Shape of Water and The Lord of the Rings. In recent years, the iconic soprano has become a leading advocate for research into the intersection of arts, health, and neuroscience, and in 2023 was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for Arts and Health by the World Health Organization. She also currently serves as LA Opera's Advisor for Special Projects.
Meet the Guest Performers
An Emmy- and SAG-nominated artist, Tituss Burgess has quickly emerged as one of the entertainment industry’s most versatile and dynamic performers. He most recently starred on Broadway as Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical and as Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary!, a role he will return to on June 23. He was seen on television in Schmigadoon! for Apple TV+ and in the hit Netflix comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (nominations for four consecutive Emmy Awards, a SAG Award, and two Critics’ Choice TV Awards). He reprised his role in the Netflix interactive special Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor. He also co-starred in the animated musical comedy series Central Park for Apple TV+, for which he was nominated for his sixth Emmy Award. In film, he starred in the MGM Aretha Franklin biopic Respect and in the Netflix films Set It Up and Dolemite Is My Name.
Lindsay Mendez most recently starred on stage in the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along, earning a Tony nomination for her performance as Mary Flynn, along with the Other Critics Circle Award, Drama League, Drama Desk and Lortel nominations. In 2018, she won the Tony Award as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance as Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel. On television, she starred in the FX anthology series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez as well as the Warner Bros television drama All Rise for CBS and OWN. Other Broadway credits include Significant Other, Wicked (as Elphaba in the 10th anniversary company), Godspell, Everyday Rapture and Grease. Off-Broadway/regional credits include The Golden Apple (City Center Encores!), Dogfight (Second Stage; Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle nominations), The Rose Tattoo (Williamstown Theatre Festival), 35mm and The Winter's Tale (Delacorte Theater).
Jessie Mueller was most recently seen on Broadway in Tracy Letts’ The Minutes. Previously, she starred on Broadway as Julie Jordan in Carousel, a performance for which she won the Drama Desk Award and earned Tony and Grammy Award nominations. She originated the roles of Jenna in Waitress (earning nominations for the Tony, Drama Desk and Grammy Awards) and Carole King in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, for which she won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Grammy Award. Other Broadway credits include Nice Work If You Can Get It and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. After starring in The Music Man at the Kennedy Center, she returned for Guys and Dolls. TV/film: Patsy & Loretta, Madam Secretary, Blue Bloods, Evil, Candy, Chicago Voices (Chicago Emmy nomination), Steven Spielberg’s The Post, A Good Person and Secret Headquarters. She can be heard in Netflix’s animated musical series Centaurworld and many cast recordings, including the newly released Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical.
Doug Peck (he/they) is a vocal coach, voice teacher, music director and pianist. As a pianist, they appear in concert with Renée Fleming, Heather Headley, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Sutton Foster, Patina Miller, Cheyenne Jackson, Sierra Boggess, Norm Lewis, Michelle Williams, Jessie Mueller, Andrea McArdle, George Hearn, John Prine, Kristin Chenoweth, André DeShields, Sheryl Lee Ralph, J’Nai Bridges and Sydney James Harcourt at venues including the Hollywood Bowl, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Los Angeles Philharmonic. As a coach and teacher, he collaborates with Billie Eilish, Skylar Astin, Ben Folds, Rashida Jones, Amy Poehler, Jim Rash, Alex Wolff, Nat Wolff, Alexandra Billings, Zosia Mamet, Kate Flannery, Briga Heelan and Debra Winger, among others. On screen, he served as vocal coach for Agatha All Along and Dear White People.
