Leadership academy

Helping to shape the future of arts leadership.

In collaboration with our long-time partner schools, LA Opera Connects' Leadership Academy empowers students from their junior year through college to investigate careers in the operatic and performing arts world. Supported by both our LA Opera team and their high school teachers and staff, Academy Interns build networks with people working in the field, bolster their professional resumés, and hone skills that will support them as the next generation of arts leaders.

By rotating through departments with close mentorship and guidance from key individuals in the company, Academy Interns learn the inner workings of LA Opera, supporting projects at all levels (and even undertake some of their own!). This is a paid internship opportunity for up to six years; recruited high school sophomores may apply and begin their internship the summer prior to their junior year.

Things to know

  • LA Opera chooses two rising juniors each year with a passion for learning about the arts.
  • Throughout the season, interns rotate through different departments, learning the intricate ins and outs of a major opera company and experiencing a whole range of potential careers in the arts.
  • Each paid internship can last up to six years.
  • Open to current high school sophomores attending RamĂ³n C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, Santee Education Complex, or Torres East LA Performing Arts Magnet.
