World premiere: Joby Talbot's score for Vampyr

"...eerily beautiful..."

Los Angeles Times

The company’s annual Halloween mash-up of opera and cinema returned to the spectacular Theatre at Ace Hotel with Carl Theodor Dreyer’s film Vampyr, a surreal 1932 masterwork underestimated for decades but now regarded as an important landmark of the horror genre. Composer Joby Talbot created a compelling new score for chamber orchestra to accompany the film, which was conducted by LA Opera’s Artist in Residence Matthew Aucoin.
